So-called “low-flush” toilets were once thought to be the final answer for
conserving water. However, not all models performed well enough to satisfy consumers. Many reported that they often had to flush twice. In response to government regulations and/or objectives, new designs were considered with the aim of reducing the volume of domestic water dedicated to flushing toilets. The latest solution seems to have been met with a great deal more enthusiasm. New “dual flush’ toilets give users the option of a low-volume flush or a high-volume flush, saving many gallons of water over the course of a year. Homeowners will be pleased to know that many brands were tested, and performance was not linked to price (which was based more on style than function). However, if you’re in the market for a new toilet, be sure to check if its performance was measured according to “Maximum Performance Testing” (also known as MaP).
