CHIMNEY INSPECTION / CLEANING
-Creosote
Burning wood at low temperatures cause incomplete combustion of the wood. As the smoke rises through the chimney it cools, causing water, carbon, and volatiles to condense on the interior surfaces of the chimney flue. This leaves a black oily residue referred to as “creosote”.
Over the course of a season creosote deposits can become thick. Since creosote is highly combustible, an accumulation creates a fire hazard. If a hot fire is built in the stove or fireplace, and the air control left wide open, this may allow hot oxygen into the chimney where it comes in contact with the creosote which then ignites – causing a chimney fire.
In order to properly maintain chimneys and heaters that burn wood or carbon based fuels, the creosote build up must be removed. Chimney sweeps perform this service professionally.
73% of heating fires and 25% of all residential fires are caused by failure to clean out creosote build up.
The best practices to avoid chimney fires are:
- Use a high efficiency stove or heater that fully burns the volatiles in the smoke.
- Make sure the wood is seasoned (not just dry on the surface) before burning.
- Inspect the chimney throughout the burning season.
- Clean the chimney annually or more frequently as needed.
-Chimney Cap

Chimney caps protect the inside of your chimney as well, are designed to protect the mortar crown area at the top of the chimney. Capping your chimney is to protect the inside of your chimney from which water can lead to moisture damage. This will also reduce the risk of embers or sparks escaping and landing on your roof or yard. A chimney cap will also keep animals out.
-Waterproofing
Whatever it takes to keep you dry, we can fix it. We provide replacement of leaky flashing and masonry repair.
